What this site collects
Short version: this site sets no cookies of its own, runs no tracking scripts of its own, and never stores your IP address. It does use Google Analytics, which does set cookies — that part is covered below, and you can block it without affecting anything.
What the server records
Every request to this site is written to a log file on the server that runs it. Each entry holds the page or file requested, the response status and how long it took; your browser's user-agent string, and whether it looks like a browser, a crawler, a script or an AI agent; the site you arrived from, if any — the domain only, never the full link; your browser's language preference; an approximate location derived from your IP address; and the network your connection belongs to, meaning your internet provider or hosting company.
The location is resolved to the centre of your provider's network, not to you. It is typically accurate to a city and frequently wrong by more than that. It is not an address.
What the server does not record
Your IP address is never written to the log. It is used for two things at the moment your request arrives, and then discarded:
- To look up the approximate location above.
- To produce a short one-way code, so we can count how many distinct people visited on a given day.
That code is generated with a random secret created fresh when the server starts and replaced every night at midnight UTC. The practical effect is that visits can be counted within a single day and cannot be connected across two days — not by us, and not by anyone who obtained the files. There is no profile, no visit history, and no way to work backwards from a code to an address.
This is also why our analytics show no "returning visitors", no retention and no cohorts. Those numbers cannot be calculated from this data, so they are not shown.
We also do not record the query string of any address, the contents of any form, or any cookie.
How long it is kept, and who can see it
Log files are deleted automatically after 90 days. Nobody but this site's operator can see them. The data is never sold, shared, or sent to an advertising network.
Approximate-location lookups are performed by ip-api.com, which receives the IP address for that lookup and nothing else.
Google Analytics
This site also uses Google Analytics, which sets its own cookies and sends usage data to Google. This is separate from everything described above, and it is the only thing on this site that sets a cookie.
You can opt out with Google's browser add-on, or by blocking it with any content blocker. The site works normally either way — nothing here depends on it.
Your rights
If you are in the EU or the UK, you have the right to ask what data relates to you and to have it deleted. In practice there is very little to hand over: without your IP address there is no way to find your entries, and the daily code cannot be reversed. Ask anyway if you want to — info@microdom.dev — and you will get a straight answer about what exists.
